CDBG provides eligible metropolitan cities and urban counties (called "entitlement communities") with annual direct grants that they can use to revitalize neighborhoods, expand affordable housing and economic opportunities, and/or improve community facilities and services, principally to benefit low- and moderate-income persons.

 
  • 1984 - Inception of CDBG Program in Ocean County
  • In 2007, CDBG Steering Committee voted to allocate CDBG funds every other year.
  • 13 participating municipalities for Grant year 2008.
  • $579,370 of 2008 funding was provided for projects such as handicap accessibility, parks and recreational facilities, street /sidewalk /curb improvements, public facility improvements and flood drainage improvements.
  • $203,000 provided for public service activities such as: Veterans' services, runaway centers, counseling and day care centers, domestic violence and youth runaway centers, visiting homecare services and senior services.
  • A total of 476 housing units have been rehabilitated under the CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Program since 1984.
  • Since 1992, 232 low/moderate income families were provided assistance to connect to public water systems through the Ocean County Water Assistance Program at a total of $114,660.
  • Ocean County has received FY 2008 CDBG funds in the amount of $1,383,405.
